Credit Card Question: Which travel rewards credit card gives me flexibility to use my miles on different airlines?

Answer: I'm getting this question a lot right now. Probably because so many people are trying to get away on vacation and they're looking for the best deal out there. There are several excellent credit cards that let you choose your own airline.

One of the most flexible travel rewards credit cards right now is Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card - $250 Travel Rewards. If you spend $1,000 in the first three months, you earn 25,000 bonus miles, which is equal to $250. You earn two miles for every dollar spent on every purchase. Now, that's a pretty good deal because you can accumulate miles quickly.

When it comes time to redeem your miles, you can use them for any travel expense. Your miles don't expire and you can fly free on any airline. You get a variable APR as low as 11.9 percent. On the downside, if you don't have excellent credit the variable APR could go as high as 19.9 percent. There's a $59 annual fee but it's waived for the first year. Capital One doesn't charge foreign transaction fees, so if you travel overseas, this is a big plus.

This card is also a Visa Signature card, which means you get extra perks such as complimentary concierge service, special access to events, travel upgrades, and more.

Other flexible travel rewards cards to consider: The PenFed Premium Travel Rewards American Express Card, Chase Sapphire Card and Escape by Discover Card.

At publishing time, the Capital One® VentureOne (SM) Rewards Credit Card, Chase Sapphire Card and Escape by Discover Card are offered on Credit.com product pages and Credit.com is compensated if our users apply for and ultimately sign up for the card. However, this relationship does not result in ANY preferential editorial treatment.
