If you're a resident of Canada, and you don't need to carry a balance, you might want to take a look at these charge cards. I've listed a few highlights of the American Express Gold Rewards Card, which is for consumers, and the Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express, which is a business card.
I want to stress that these are charge cards and not credit cards. You have to pay the balance in full every month by the due date on your statement. Please note that a 30 percent interest rate will apply to unpaid balances. That's right, folks: Don't carry a balance!

This is an excellent rewards charge card for those who travel frequently. Spend $500 within the first three months and earn 15,000 Welcome Bonus points, which is enough for a short-haul flight. Your 15,000 rewards points equals 15,000 Aeroplan Miles. You can get details about Aeroplan Miles here. You can also transfer points to frequent flyer programs.
Rewards: Two points for every $1 spent on gas, drug stores, travel, and grocery purchases. Get one point for every $1 spent on other purchases.
Annual Fee: $150, but waived for the first year; one additional card is free, but more than one is $50 each.
Foreign Transaction fees: 2.5 percent of each charge.
Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express
This is also an excellent rewards charge card that's specifically for small business owners. You get to enjoy no pre-set spending limit on your card, which gives you and your business some financial flexibility.
Spend $3,000 within the first three months and earn 25,000 Welcome Points, which is enough for a round-trip flight to the majority of destinations in North America. Your rewards points transfer to Aeroplan Miles at a one-to-one ratio. You can also transfer points to frequent flyer programs. Note that point transfer ratios will vary by participant. You also have the option to charge business travel expenses to your card and then pay for it with rewards points.

With this charge card, you get access to some spiffy online management tools to help you run your business effectively. Plus, you get exceptional benefits, such as employee card misuse protection, small business disability plans, hotel/motel burglary insurance, and more.
Rewards: Get one point for every $1 on virtually all purchases. When you spend $50,000 in one year, you get 15,000 bonus points. After you spend $100,000, you earn an additional 25,000 points.
Annual Fee: $180, but waived for the first year; one additional card is free, but more than one is $50 each.
Foreign Transaction fees: 2.5 percent of each charge.
